A Change to Card Payments through DEFT

MBIB utilises Macquarie Bank’s DEFT payments platform and Premium Funding to enable clients to pay for their insurances.

Macquarie Bank is evolving the payment options available on DEFT to focus on fast, fee-free methods, and removing the option to pay by card.

What’s happening and when?

From Thursday 1 October 2026, you’ll no longer be able to make payments on deft.com.au using a credit or debit card. Any card payments you have scheduled to process on or after this date will be cancelled.  Note from 1 October you can still pay via BPAY using a credit or debit card (as long as your bank supports this), via EFTPOS at Australia Post, or utilise Premium Funding where repayments can be made via a credit or debit card.

Why is Macquarie removing card payments from DEFT?

Following recent changes by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), card companies including Visa and Mastercard have announced they’ll prohibit businesses from charging customers a surcharge on card payments. As a result, Macquarie is evolving the payment options available on DEFT to focus on fast, fee-free methods, and removing the option to pay by card via deft.com.au.

How can you pay your invoices going forward?

You can continue to make payments to us using the available payment options on your MBIB invoice. We offer the following payment options:

  • Premium Funding – pay your insurance in monthly instalments via direct debit or credit card. Note: Not applicable for Warranty Certificate Applications. Application fees and credit charges apply.
  • BPAY® – pay by mobile or internet banking using our DEFT Biller Code: 20362. Use your DEFT reference number as the Customer Reference Number. You can still pay using a credit or debit card via this option (as long as your bank supports this)
  • Post Billpay – pay in-store at Australia Post via eftpos or cheque. You’ll need the barcode that is found on your MBIB invoice when using this option.
  • deft.com.au – make one-off or recurring direct debits (from your bank account).
  • PayID® – make fee-free payments via mobile or internet banking using [your-deft-reference-number]@deft.com.au. You’ll need to get your PayID on deft.com.au. This will activate your PayID so you’ll be set to pay.
